Well, we suppose it’s more like coming to the backyard, Andy’s backyard as a matter of fact. Soon we’ll be grabbing our lasso and wrangling up some BBQ at the new Toy Story Land restaurant coming to Hollywood Studios. You know us, we get excited any time we hear about a new restaurant, especially if it means expanding Toy Story Land. Home to one of our favorite quick serves, Woody’s Lunchbox, the land could use a sit down restaurant for guests to retreat to amidst all the swirling aliens and Tinker Toy coaster sets. We’ve got the cherry wood, you grab the kindling, it’s time to heat up the smoker!
Elephant In The Room
There’s always an elephant, but why is it pink? Why not purple, or green? Let’s face it, if we see any elephant that’s not greyish in color it’s going to stand out. Anyways, we digress. The elephant we’re talking about in regards to a new Toy Story Land restaurant is – why no Pizza Planet? When rumors started around a new Toy Story Land restaurant every Disneyphile immediately thought it would be the famed pizza restaurant.
The main reason for no Pizza Planet is due to the theme and backstory of Toy Story Land. The land is designed to be Andy’s backyard and you’ve been shrunken down to the size of a toy. In the Toy Story movies, Pizza Planet is the restaurant where Andy and his family go to eat and meet cool aliens (The claw!!! Ooo111 Ahhhhh!!. From a story line viewpoint Pizza Planet would not be in Andy’s backyard and if it was Disney would have to offer pizza slices the size of, well us to keep the “you’re toy-sized theming”.
Secondly, if we jump in our Disney time machines and go back a few years we would see Pizza Planet at Hollywood Studios. Before Pizzerizzo opened across from Muppet Vision 3D, the area was the Pizza Planet restaurant from the movie. With Disney retheming the restaurant we would be surprised to see them open a new Toy Story Land Restaurant with the previously used idea.
After constructing Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania Andy is building a new play area in his backyard, a rodeo arena! Using three cardboard boxes and plenty of duct tape (as we know duct tape fixes everything), Andy is creating an area where toys, games, and smaller playsets can hangout. The inside western themed rodeo arena will be home to the new Toy Story Land restaurant.
Guests will be surrounded with memorable characters from the movies, like Jessie riding the Trixie pull toy, and Woody lassoing Zorg. Tables and chairs will be a mashup of colorful combinations that only Andy could pull off. #pullingitoff
What would you eat in the backyard? BBQ of course! How many of you were thinking hamburgers and hot dogs? The new Toy Story restaurant will be a sit down restaurant serving up BBQ. This will be the first time Disney World offers BBQ in this type of setting. Currently, Disney offers BBQ as a quick service at Flametree Barbecue in Animal Kingdom and in the American Pavilion at Epcot during select festivals. We are still waiting on an official menu from Disney, but going off the western theme, we are thinking a brisket, chicken, tri-tip focused menu, as pork is usually more Carolina style BBQ.
Where’s It Going
In our 5th Walt Disney World park article we spoke about the expansion areas around the different parks. One of the areas is where the new Toy Story Land restaurant will be located. As you enter Toy Story Land you’ll see a giant Woody off to the right. Directly behind Woody will be the location of the new restaurant.
The big question is with Disney World using this expansion area for the new Toy Story Land restaurant is this the start of the expansion of the “Pixar area” of the park. As we discussed in our Star Wars Launch Bay article, we could see more Pixar areas within Hollywood Studios, especially one connecting Toy Story Land with Lightning McQueen Racing Academy.
You know us, the more the merrier when it comes to restaurants. We’re really excited to see Hollywood Studios get another sit down restaurant. We’re hoping the food will be similar to the BBQ offerings that are served in the American pavilion during the festivals. The brisket slider is soooo good! Yum! Alright all this BBQ talk has gotten us hungry, let’s get this meat smoking!
