Fact. Everything tastes better when eaten on a rooftop, especially, in Walt Disney World. You heard it here first. For years, Disney has had only one option for enjoying a meal while overlooking Mickey’s house – the iconic California Grill. Not any longer, by years end we’ll have three different rooftop dining options. Over the past few months Disney has announced two new rooftop restaurants; Toledo at the Gran Destino Tower at Coronado Springs and Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera at Disney’s Riviera Resort. We’re ascending to the top to see the views of Walt Disney World and enjoy a meal, let’s go.
Toledo – Tapas, Steaks, and Seafood
First stop is Coronado Springs and the Gran Destino Tower. Set to open July 9th, Toldeo will be located atop the Gran Destino Tower with majestic views of Epcot and Hollywood Studios. It will have 1930’s Spanish influenced decor if you didn’t know that’s the surrealist time period, but we assume that’s common knowledge. The menu begins with traditional Spanish tapas, or small plates, as the appetizer course. These are dishes that are meant to give you a flavor-packed bite in a small package with size enough to share. Chefs will prepare your tapas in what Disney is calling an on-stage tapas kitchen.
Moving forward in your meal you’ll have the option to dine on either on steak or seafood. The feature dish of the menu looks to be the hand-cut Spanish Chuleton for two. This 32-ounce dry-aged bone-in ribeye sounds amazing. Our mouths are already watering – medium rare please!
What really caught our eye is that Toledo will have a Master Sommelier on staff. With over 75 hand-chosen Spanish and California wines on hand, Toledo could be a wine drinkers haven! Outside of wine, the restaurant will offer handcrafted cocktails, beers, and ciders.
At the moment Disney has not announced whether Toledo will be part of the 2019 Disney Dining Plan.
Passholder Insight: If the restaurant operates similar to California Grill at the Contemporary, you can view the fireworks from the top regardless of your reservation time. All you need to do is give your name at the hostess stand.
Topolino’s Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera
Next stop on our rooftop tour we’re heading over to the soon to open, Disney Riviera Resort. Opening on December 16, 2019, the Riviera Resort is bringing the European Riviera to Walt Disney World. Part of the upcoming Disney Skyliner, the Riviera Resort will have a new rooftop restaurant at the top called Topolino’s Terrace.
The restaurant will have a lot to live up to, as it’s Italian name translates to Mickey. Another 90th Birthday surprise for Mickey, a new dining establishment in his name. The menu will be influenced by the flavors of French and Italian cuisines along the Mediterranean Sea. Imagine fresh and bright seafood dishes with simple, yet elegant flavors. We should see more details on the individual dishes in June 2019. Similar to Toledo, Topolino’s Terrace will have grand views of both the Epcot and Hollywood Studios nighttime spectaculars.
We were excited to read that Topolino’s Terrace will offer a character dining breakfast. Which characters will be there is still unknown, but let the rumors start. Our crazy thought is it could be a Mickey-themed character dining, solely based on the restaurant’s name.
At the moment Disney has not announced if Topolino’s will be included on the 2019 Disney Dining Plan. If it is, it looks like it would be a signature restaurant and potentially two meal credits.
Passholder Insight: If you’re interested in an Advance Dining Reservation at Topolino we would recommend to start checking on June 19, 2019, as it would be 180 days prior to the restaurant opening.
We cannot wait for these new rooftop restaurants to open at Walt Disney World. It’s great to see more firework viewing dining options outside of the parks. We are looking forward to skyward dining at Toledo – Tapas, Steaks, and Seafood and Topolino’s. Yummy!
