Let’s embrace the wet! Florida is known for two things, world-class theme parks and out of nowhere rain showers. Preparation is the name of the game, you’ll always find an umbrella and raincoat in our theme park backpack. No pop-up shower is going to get the best of us! It’s a rainy day at the Magic Kingdom, but we’re not going to let it slow us down. With a majority of the infamous Magic Kingdom attraction located inside, we’re going off the beaten path to share our lesser-known rainy day activities at the Magic Kingdom. Our raincoats are on, let’s go dodge those raindrops!
Touring The Classics
Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is filled with classic attractions. In our first group of activities on this rainy day at the Magic Kingdom, we’re talking classic attractions that dawn Walt’s name. A DVC Duo all-time favorite show, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, is a fantastic show highlighting classic animatronic birds. Grab your Dole Whip of choice, Nate recommends the classic, and head inside for this classic show. That’s right you can bring your Dole Whip into the show!
Passholder Insights: Wrap up the experience with a spring roll! Across from Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room is the famous Adventureland Spring Roll Cart.
Heading to the other side of the Magic Kingdom we find a true original, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. Debuting at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, the Carousel of Progress is a wonderful attraction for a rainy at the Magic Kingdom. Located in Tomorrowland, the attraction brings you on a 30-minute journey through the 4 different moments in time for John and his family. Add in one of the most iconic Disney songs, no not Small World, A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow, and you ‘ve got a great way to wait out a storm while getting in a glimpse into Walt Disney’s creative mind!
Passholder Insights: On a rainy day at the Magic Kingdom the 3 pm parade can be delayed. Check out My Disney Experience to see if the start time has changed.
What’s behind those well-themed windows on the Magic Kingdom’s Main Street USA? Great shops! When the rain starts falling there is no better place to go than inside. With rainstorms usually lasting around 30 to 60 minutes, it’s the perfect time to get your shop on. On a rainy day at the Magic Kingdom, we enjoying waiting out the storms on Main Street USA. Lining the street are an array of shops with everything from classic Disney souvenirs in Emporium to sweet treats in The Confectionary. We like to bebop our way through the punny t-shirts and irresistible coffee mugs in the Emporium.
Passholder Insights: At Christmas time the windows outside the Emporium are transformed to scenes from Mickey’s Christmas Carol.
One of the most unique shops on Disney property is located in the Magic Kingdom. Outside the Haunted Mansion is Memento Mori. With merchandise themed around the classic Disney attractions, when it’s a rainy day at the Magic Kingdom we enjoy exploring all of the one of a kind pieces. It’s the perfect place to wait out a pop-up shower.
Passholder Insights: At Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party the Haunted Mansion goes all out. Outside the attraction, you’ll find some special characters!
We’re late, we’re late, we’re late…wait no we’re not! One of our go-to strategies for a rainy day at the Magic Kingdom is scheduling a late lunch. On those hot humid days, you can almost predict an afternoon storm sometime between 2 and 4 pm. It’s also the hottest part of the day. We enjoy avoiding the noontime rush and plan for lunch at around 2 pm. You’ll usually find us at one of two places. If we’re in a sit-down restaurant mood, we’ll trek our way over to Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen for an adventurous meal. For quick-serve we like to hit up Be Our Guest, we’ve found that if you’re in a smaller group (4 or less) you can usually walk up for lunch towards the end of service.
Passholder Insights: A great quick-serve option that is a little more underrated is the Tortuga Tavern across from Pirates of the Carribean.
We’ll never let the rain slow us down! For us, the best rainy park on Disney property is the Magic Kingdom. You’ll find us popping up our umbrellas and splashing in a puddle or two while enjoying everything the park has to offer. The only thing left to decide is whether or not to get a Dole Whip before heading into the Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. Who are kidding, when it comes to Dole Whip it’s always yes!
