Epcot’s World Showcase – In Search For Our Top 3 Countries

Japan Pavilion in Epcot's World Showcase

Let’s travel the world! Epcot’s World Showcase that is. With all the updates coming to one of our favorite Walt Disney World parks, from Ratatouille and Beauty and the Beast in the France pavilion to the new Takumi-Tei restaurant in the Japan pavilion, and the rumors of a new Brazil pavilion, it got us thinking what are our favorite World Showcase pavilions? Like picking your favorite child – honestly we all have a favorite, it just may change from week to week – we’re going to try our best to pick our top 3.  Grab your best walking shoes we’re taking a lap around the World Showcase!

One of Epcot's World Showcase countries is Germany.

The Backstory

Everything has a backstory, and Epcot’s World Showcase is no different. When Epcot opened in October 1982 the World Showcase was designed to give guests a taste of the represented countries to increase tourism. Fast-forward to today and the World Showcase is more than just a way to drive tourism, it’s a cultural experience filled with food, entertainment, shopping, and an ever-growing list of attractions.

Passholder Insights: When the Disney Skyliner opens later this summer the station will be located adjacent to the World Showcase between the France and U.K. pavilions.

It’s Amore!

What’s the fastest way to the DVC Duo’s hearts? Through our stomachs of course! Kicking off our top 3 World Showcase countries is Italy. Built around two of our favorite things, food and wine, the Italy pavilion is serving up some of the best dishes around the World Showcase. Whether you’re enjoying a pie at Via Napoli Ristorante e Pizzeria or a more traditional meal at Tutto Italia, you’re in for a treat.

Beyond the restaurants, one of our favorite things to do is pick up a glass of prosecco and stroll through the shops or find an umbrella for some shade and to give our feet a break.

Passholder Insights: A great place to snap a picture is on the bridge located near the World Showcase Lagoon. Usually, you’ll find a Disney Photopass Photographer here as well.

Bonjour! Good Day!

Soon to be the largest pavilion in the World Showcase, the France pavilion has a lot to see. Home to one of the favorite street performers, Serveur Amusant, it is a heart-pounding great time. The duo combines acrobatics with comedy, as they stack chairs to reach new heights above the crowds. If you’re walking through the pavilion and hear a whistle look to the skies.

For us, no trip around the world is complete without a pit stop in Les Vins de France. Serving up our favorite champagne, Veuve Clicquot, Les Vins des France is more than just drinks, it’s always a great little shop to find that special something for your kitchen.

Passholder Insights: There’s a ton to see in the France pavilion if you head beyond the fountain and down the alley.

One of the larger structure in Epcot's World Showcase is the Mexico pavilion's Mayan Temple

Viva Mexico!

We didn’t have to split too many hairs to pick our top World Showcase country, Mexico. Home to one of our favorite restaurants, San Angel Inn, the Mexico pavilion has a special place in the DVC Duo’s hearts. Whether it’s exploring the market for the perfect new glass to add our collection or searching for Donald with Jose and Panchito, we love the feeling we get walking into the pavilion. It could be the margarita La Cava del Tequila talking.

Outside, the pavilion has just as much to offer as the Mayan temple. One of our favorite afternoon breaks is ordering some nachos from the San Angel Inn Cantina, grabbing a seat in the shade and peering out over World Showcase Lagoon. Through in a little music from the Mariachi band and you’ve got a great little afternoon.

Passholder Insights: For Coco fans, you’ll want to check out the Day of Dead exhibit in the lobby of the Mayan temple.

Our Thoughts

Picking our top 3 World Showcase countries is no easy task, as each of the countries has something unique to offer. For us, Epcot’s World Showcase is the perfect way to spend an afternoon, whether we’re enjoying one of the festivals, or taking a break from the crowds, the pace seems to slow around the lagoon. When the sun goes down the World Showcase really shines with Illuminations and soon Epcot Forever. Looks like Donald is lost again, we’re off to Mexico!
