What’s simmering behind the France pavilion? Is Chef Remy cooking something up? For the past year, all the focus at Epcot has been around the construction of the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster in Future World. Quietly in the meantime, Chef Remy has been making trips to the local farmers market picking out the perfect ingredients for his famous dish, ratatouille. Like any good French dish, it’s all about the ingredients and preparation and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is no different. For the past year, Chef Remy has be prepping a brand new attraction for us enjoy. All the ingredients are still simmering, but we do have a lot of insight into how this dish will taste. Let’s grab our tasting spoon and give it a test!
Back in the summer of 2017, at the D23, event Bob Chapek announced an expansion coming to the France pavilion at Epcot – a new attraction themed around Ratatouille. The concept art shows us a quintessential Parisian street with the Eiffel Tower overlooking. At the end of the street, accent by bright lights is a “restaurant”, whose restaurant could that be? Remy’s of course!
At the D23 event we also learned that the expansion area will be situated behind the current France Pavilion, which is great news, as it means Walt Disney World will not be removing any of the current France Pavilion to make room for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure! All great chef’s like Remy like to create from scratch – no premade, or pre-packaged goods in this recipe! According to Jim Hill from Jim Hill Media, there will be multiple entry points to the new area with one potentially being through the current gift shop – kind of like a secret entrance! The new expansion will almost double the size of the current France Pavilion.
When you’re ordering a classic dish like ratatouille, you more or less know what to expect. There may be a few different flavor nuances based on the chef, generally you know what you’re going to get. The same holds true for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure.
Over in Disneyland Paris, Remy has an attraction called – Ratatouille: The Adventure. Walt Disney World has announced that Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be based off the Disneyland Paris attraction and use the same trackless ride system and 3D technology. The trackless ride system uses GPS to guide the vehicle through the attraction. The same technology is being used in the upcoming Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway over at Hollywood Studios.
Time to eat! Ready to head out on Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure? To do so, you’ll be shrunken down to “Remy size”. Now you’re ready to head out with Remy on his adventure through the kitchen, as he makes his famous dish. Knowing Disney they will probably have a few surprises for us on the Walt Disney World version of the attraction.
Room for Dessert?
There is always room for dessert, at least in the DVC Duo house there is! We originally thought the new France pavilion expansion area would only have the new Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attraction. Well, glad we saved room as we found out at the Destination D event that a Beauty and the Beast Sing-along attraction is also coming to the new area as well! Magnifique!
We should let Remy get back to his cooking! Time to wash the tasting spoon for now. Rumor has it though that the “dish” will be ready in springtime of 2020. Well keep an eye an out and let you know when Remy’s dish is ready to try!
