Wocka, Wocka! With all the updates happening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Star Wars Galaxy Edge and Toy Story Land) the big question is what areas of the park would be updated next. Rumors around Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster kicked-off the next phase of changes coming for Hollywood Studios. Could the Muppets also be on the list?
“It’s a classic!” Talk with any Disneyphile for more than 10 minutes and you’ll probably hear them say this phrase. Whether they’re talking about how Small World was at the World’s Fair in 1964 or that the Tiki Room was created by Walt Disney himself (Stitch and Iago, you’re no longer needed as managers! 😉 ). “It’s a classic” is phrased used when talking about a nostalgic attraction at Walt Disney World. For us our “it’s a classic” trigger is the Muppets. Muppet Vision 4-D opened in the spring 1991 and has been a key part of Hollywood Studios over the years. We just can’t get enough Statler and Waldorf, we would take them home, if they weren’t “bolted to the floor!” ::knee slap::
Recently, I think Disney asked Simba to report the Muppet news! Maybe the Muppets will be king? “Everybody look….” We look left, we see great things happening like The Muppets Present Great Moments in American History show added to Liberty Square in the Magic Kingdom. We highly recommend the show, by they way, belly laughs galore and loaded with memorable puns! We look right, we see sad things like Pizza Rizzo not getting a solid menu and moving to seasonal openings. In Disney terms, seasonal open’s is the first step towards retirement. Right Stitch? What is happening with our Muppets! Are they staying or are they going?
We’ve all been there before. You have a sleepless night worried about something important. For me it was the Muppets this time. The next morning, coffee was a must. I sat down and put one of the many Disney related podcast I listen to, The Disney Dish with Jim Hill, looking for a distraction. Sipping away on my coffee (iced of course; who drinks hot coffee when it’s 90+ degrees out?!) I jump out of my seat with a Cheshire cat type of smile when I heard that there may be a new Muppet TV show again! According to Jim Hill, Disney is launching a new Muppets TV show as part of the new Disney streaming service (potential called Disney Play) coming out next year. There are still no details around the show, but hopefully Disney brings back Jason Segel as a writer. Segel co-wrote and starred in the 2011 movie The Muppets. I thought to myself, if Disney is creating a new TV show around the Muppets there is no way they’ll be leaving the parks yet!
