There’s something “springing” up at the Coronado Springs resort! Yeah, we went there, we couldn’t resist! Recently announced the new resort tower being built at Coronado Springs this will be the highest point in all of Walt Disney World, move over Tower of Terror! Plus, thanks to Bob Chapek we got even more details around the newly revamped resort. Pick up your favorite Disney explorer and let’s head out on our exploration of Coronado Springs Resort. Indy, you’re with me!
The Hard to Hide Tower
Rolling by the Coronado Springs Resort, you can’t miss the new tower being constructed. Measuring in at 15 stories high, with a total of 545 new guest rooms, 50 of which will be suites, the tower will have grand views of Walt Disney World. On November 17, 2018, Bob Chapek announced the tower’s official name – say hello to the Gran Destino Tower. Insert your favorite Clint Eastwood “get off my lawn” joke here. The Gran Destino Tower will officially open in July of 2019, and guests will be able to make reservations starting today.
One thing we’ve noticed in the concept art is the ever changing accent color to the front of the tower. We’ve seen it switch back and forth between turquoise and gold, with the latest image showing turquoise (Disney Parks Blog). We’re hoping Disney sticks with the turquoise option, as for us it fits better with the Southwestern theme.
New Guest Rooms
Digging into the other happenings, we’ve discovered Disney has been feverishly updating all aspects of the resort. Over the past year, the guest rooms surrounding Lago Dorado, have been updated with new fixtures, furnishings, lighting and a new paint scheme. From what we’ve heard the rooms have a more modern feel with a softer Spanish influenced southwestern color palette. The rooms will coordinate with the new tower, as well as the recently updated Pepper Market.
,If you’re updating the guest rooms why not update the pool at the same time? The famous Mayan Temple pool is also undergoing a refresh to match the rest of the resort. There have been no rumors of the waterside leaving the resort. Fingers crossed it says!
The Important Stuff – Food
Did we hear you right, Bob? Not one, but two new restaurants? What?! The first restaurant will literally be the centerpiece of Lago Dorado where we will be able to dine al fresco – middle of the lake. We we don’t know about you, but this conjures up fond memories of our last Mexican Riviera vacation – dining alongside the sea. Reviewing the concept art it looks like the restaurant will have the majority of seating on the patio. No worries though, as it has cover to shade us from the sun, and the always reliable Florida thunderstorms. We don’t have an official menu yet, but if we had to hypothesize what could be on the menu, seafood feels like a safe bet! To us, it just makes sense to have seafood focused menu in an “island” restaurant.
The restaurant we’re most excited for is the new rooftop restaurant on top of the Gran Destino Tower. Rumored to be a new Signature restaurant, it will boast unbeatable views of Walt Disney World. All Disney has revealed about the concept is that it will be a themed table-service, which could be anything but more than likely rustic Spanish/Southwestern style food. Serena envisions high-end Gaucho style cuisine here – what do you think Jose Garces?
Could Coronado Springs Resort displace the Animal Kingdom Lodge as our favorite foodie resort on Disney Property? Only time will tell! Are you excited to explore the new Coronado Springs Resort? Let us know below or on our Facebook Page!
