It’s that time again. Time to kick back in our favorite chair and reminisce over the top moments of the past year. In the DVC Duo house it has a been a momentous year, we launched our website and tried our hardest to become social media moguls. All we can say is, how do kids today do it?! We must learn their social media ninja skills. We want to take a moment to say thank you to everyone for your support, reading our articles, and joining us on this magical adventure. We love sharing our thoughts and insights with you. Ok, ok, enough with the sentimental stuff, you guys know it’s not our style. Let’s reminisce on 2018 and our top 3 new things at Walt Disney World this year. We’ll order the Chinese food (a DVC Duo New Year’s tradition) and you grab the drinks (champagne please)!
Slinky Dog Dash
Amazing! Enough said. Ok, twist our arm, we’ll say more about it. Topping our list of top 3 new things at Walt Disney World is Slinky Dog Dash. It is the perfect family coaster that loaded with fun and has a major reride ability, we had to ride multiple times on our last trip. From the moment we stepped in line and saw all the intricate details in the queue theme, to the dips and dives on the ride itself, you couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces. For us, it has quickly jumped into Our Top 3 Rides at Hollywood Studios, move over Toy Story Mania, Slinky Dog Dash is racing past you.
Our favorite aspect of the ride is the second launch point – how clever! As you pull back for the second launch, look left and right. You can see the mechanism Andy uses to launch you up the next hill. Originally, we tfelt like we were in a rubber band, and we were correct! At the end of the ride you see the “box” for the launcher piece and it’s a “slingshot-style” launch. We’re pretty sure rubber bands are used in slingshots, obviously. The coolest part happens after the launch as you make your way up the hill. The coaster “pauses” at the top like it’s not going to crest the hill – feels like it was made by a 10 year old! We would highly recommend taking a ride on Slinky Dog Dash, it is worth the 70 minute wait in our opinion.
Coming in second on our top 3 new things at Walt Disney World is Sebastian’s Bistro at the Caribbean Beach Resort. A late comer in 2018 (opened November 2018), Sebastian’s Bistro is a bright and welcome new restaurant to the Caribbean Beach Resort. The restaurant was elegant, yet comfortably casual and whimsical. We gave a full dining review here. We can’t wait to head back to try out some of the other dishes and grab a drink at the Banana Cabana.
Besides the food, what makes us the most excited about the restaurant is the glimpse it gives into the revamped Caribbean Beach Resort. It looks like Walt Disney World is moving to a more “mixed” resort experience with combination of the deluxe Disney Riviera Resort which should be opening by end of 2019.
Wreck It Ralph – Meet and Greet
“I’m gonna wreck it! Wreck it Ralph!” Rounding out our top 3 new things at Walt Disney World is the new Wreck it Ralph and Vanellope meet and greet at Epcot. We have never had so much fun waiting in line for a character meet and greet. Between the 80’s video game music and watching Ralph and Vanellope dance around, we couldn’t stop laughing. The best part was Serena showing Ralph her new MagicBand, yes you guessed right, it’s Wreck it Ralph. Definitely a must do if you’re Ralph fan, which we know you are.
Beyond the meet and greet, we would highly recommend Ralph Breaks the Internet. A fresh new Disney classic that appeals to us kids of the late 80s/90s with enough bright colors to keep your kids interested. You’ll love all the hilarious pun in references to the internet. Trust us, find a few minutes to watch this one.
Alright everyone, it has a been a fabulous year! We’ve had a blast and look forward to what awaits us in 2019. What was your favorite Disney thing from 2018? Let us know. 3, 2, wait for it, wait for it, 1! We wish everyone a Happy New Year!
