They don’t call it a comeback! For years Disney’s Hollywood Studios was the go to park for the holidays, everyone had to see The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights. A light display that would even impressive Clark Griswold! January 6, 2016 is a sad day in Disney History, as it was the last day out the dancing lights. Fast-forward to today and Hollywood Studios Flurry of Fun is a nearly worthy replacement. Holidays begin at Hollywood Studios on November 8th and run through January 6th. Let’s dive into all the holiday options at Hollywood Studios.
From front to back Hollywood Studios is the most decorated park in all of the four theme parks. The festivities kick-off with decorating around Echo Lake, and the addition of a large Christmas tree in the center. Even Gertie “the Cretaceous Christmas Dino “gets into the holiday spirit. You’ll have to check out how Gertie celebrates the holiday!
Feast with Minnie!
Also in the Echo Lake area is Minnie’s Seasonal Dining at Hollywood & Vine. Join Minnie along with her other “famous friends” for her dinner party. Hang out and meet the characters while you dine. The meal also includes pictures with the “celebs”, table activities and party gifts!
The character dining is great way to meet the famous characters in their holiday outfits. Please note that we have not heard great things about the food. Everyone says you go for the characters, not the food.
Passholder Insights: If you’re looking for good food and character dining check out either Chef Mickey’s or Tusker House. No holiday outfits but super cute themed outfits!
Woody and Buzz Decorated!
Brand new this year is both Toy Story Land and the holiday decorating of the land for Hollywood Studios Flurry of Fun. Details around the decorating of the land are hush hush. Who doesn’t love surprises?! We do! Rumor has it that Andy spread holiday lights and garland all over the “backyard” for the holiday and found some new music for Alien Swirling Saucers and Slinky Dog Dash.
It’s hard to be dark and scary when you’re decorated as a Christmas gift. The centerpiece of Hollywood Studios Flurry of Fun is Sunset Greetings and the holiday projection show on the Tower of Terror. Once the sun sets, Sunset Boulevard is transformed into a winter wonderland of snowy fun! The billboards come to life with our favorite characters sharing their holiday tales and love for the season.
The Tower of Terror show runs continuously once dark hits, going through 4 different stories during the night. Stories include tales from Mickey and Minnie, toy talk with some famous “toys”, cooking creations with The Muppets Swedish Chef, and what’s winter without a snowman?!
Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM!
Finish off your Hollywood Studios Flurry of Fun night with the search for Saint Nick. Are ready to help save Christmas?! Taking place in front of Grauman’s Chinese Theater is Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! a holiday spectacular with projections, lasers, and fireworks! Ooh, ahh!
Find a seat anywhere in the main courtyard for the best view. The DVC Duo recommendation is to be middle to back of the main courtyard for best viewing and less neck pain! There is no bad spot in this area. Behind the main courtyard you could have some obstructed views from the famous Florida palm trees. We would recommend finding a spot at least 30 minutes prior to the show.
The Dessert Party
If you’re interested in reserved seating for the nighttime spectacular Walt Disney World offers the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Holiday Party. The hard ticket event includes reserved seating for the show along with holiday treats ranging from Yule logs and cheese fondue to Gingerbread martinis and much more.
Passholder Insight: If you’re looking at the dessert parties we have heard this one is best for both viewing and treats. We’re slated to try it on our upcoming trip! Bring on the martinis!
Hollywood Studios Flurry of Fun is helping ease the pain from the retiring of the dancing lights. Every year the festivities grow and may be the best “free” holiday nighttime entertainment!
